Direct injection is the king, electronic injection excavator defeated by Chinese customers

2013-10-20

Since 2008, world-renowned large excavator companies have successively launched the latest models of medium and large excavators, using electronic fuel injection engines. Claimed to be efficient, environmentally friendly, and reliable in quality.

But in ChinaSecond hand excavator marketAfter the launch of excavators equipped with electronic fuel injection engines, the intuitive feeling of Chinese customers is that the fuel consumption of electronic fuel injection excavators is generally high, and the Ministry of Environmental Protection is not aware of it. The most important thing is the electronic fuel injection engine, which has high quality requirements for diesel. The quality of diesel used on domestic construction sites does not meet the standards, resulting in a high failure rate of electronic fuel injection excavators.

Due to the uncertainty of the construction area, excavator users experience uncertainty in the quality of diesel. Some small-scale refineries produce diesel that cannot meet the requirements of electronically controlled diesel engines due to the lack of refining level. Even the diesel produced by Sinopec has not yet reached Euro IV standards, and there is still a certain gap in diesel quality compared to countries such as Europe and America. Therefore, the electronic control engines widely promoted by CAT Biele in Europe and America, as well as the E-series hydraulic excavators that meet higher emission standards, are not entirely suitable for China's national conditions. This also explains why some customers still reminisce about the obsolete CAT 320C series direct injection excavator several years after the D series excavator was launched.
After the introduction of electronic fuel injection diesel engines, the replacement with direct injection diesel engines was not the first of CAT Pirelli. Komatsu China, Hitachi Construction Machinery, and Kobelco Construction Machinery have also been criticized by some customers after launching excavators equipped with electronic diesel engines. In theory, electronically controlled diesel engines should be more fuel-efficient than direct injection diesel engines, as they can accurately control the injection time and quantity, ensuring complete combustion of fuel in the cylinder. However, after the equipment was introduced to the market, from the actual usage of customers, due to the inability of the oil to meet the high requirements of electronically controlled engines, it has become a "drinking oil" machine. Along with it, there is also an increase in failure rates and maintenance costs. Given these reasons, Hitachi Construction Machinery took the lead in responding and launched the -3G direct injection machine series, which is more in line with market demand. Although technically speaking, returning from electronic fuel injection engines to direct injection engines is a step backwards, it is also a positive measure taken by excavator manufacturers to better meet the usage environment of Chinese users, which is beneficial to customers.

Direct injection is the king, and electronic injection excavators have been defeated by Chinese customers. What meets market demand is always the right one.
